Researchers from the Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont (ICP) have taken part in the annual meeting of the European Association of Vertebrate Palaeontologists (EAVP), the most important vertebrate paleontology  meeting in Europe, held in Munich from 1st to 3rd August. ICP personnel or collaborators presented up to 30 works among talks and posters.

Highlights include the presentation of Daniel DeMiguel as a keynote speaker. In his speech "Fossil Evidence And Tracing Key Innovations - An Example From The Evolution Of Ruminant Mammals" he talked about how key innovations (changes in organisms that allow them to exploit new resources) are important for fauna diversification, as it can be observed in the radiation of ruminants during the Miocene. In particular, DeMiguel analyzed how the development of new adaptations from the Eocene in the skeleton of this group, such as cranial appendages and a specialized dentition, contributed to its diversification and adaptation to new habitats and types of diets, and to the origin of extant families of ruminants.

This was the fifteenth edition of this meeting that this year has gathered more than 250 specialists from all over the world. The EAVP was founded in 2003 and in its annual meetings researchers present their latest researches in several disciplines of vertebrate paleontology (systematics, biostratigraphy, fossil conservation, etc.). Moreover, the congress is a meeting point to establish international collaborations.
