REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in Paleontology.
  • Experience in sorting microfossils, preferably from the Paleogene, and/or sediments with high lignite content, as well as stratigraphy and biostratigraphy of sites of this age.
TASKS TO BE PERFORMED
  1. Collaboration with the research staff of the research group or the technical staff of the technical area in order to achieve the specific objectives in accordance with the strategic objectives and scientific policy of the ICP, including publications and conference contributions, with the authorization of the head of the relevant area.
  2. Participation in and, exceptionally by delegation of the leader of the research group or the head of the relevant area, direction of scheduled and preventive paleontological interventions such as prospecting, excavation and/or sampling. In particular, participation in fieldwork at Paleogene sites in Catalonia, including fossil recovery.
  3. Washing and sorting of microfossils and other field or laboratory support activities within the framework of paleontological fieldwork directed by ICP researchers or provided to third parties.
  4. Bibliographic support, i.e. cataloguing and managing the collections of books and reprints of ICP researchers or research groups. More specifically in the drafting of fieldwork reports on the Paleogene of Catalonia.
  5. Support for fossil collections and databases, i.e. cataloguing and inventory of fossils excavated and/or studied by ICP researchers or research groups.
  6. Support for ICP researchers in other computer and/or laboratory tasks, such as measurements and sampling, and taking and editing photographs.
  7. With the approval of the leader of the research group or the head of the relevant area, assisting external researchers in the framework of strategic collaborations approved by the Head of the Research Department or through the provision of services to third parties.
  8. Providing the Head of the Research Department and the Head of the Communication and Scientific Outreach Area with regular updates on publications of which they are a co-author, as well as relevant information on the research and outreach activities carried out.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
  • Knowledge of the geology and paleontology of Paleogene sites in Catalonia.
  • Master’s and/or PhD in Geology, Paleontology, Biology or equivalent.
  • Good written and spoken level of Catalan and English.
  • Experience in sorting Paleogene microfossils or sediments with high lignite content.
  • Participation in fieldwork campaigns of the Paleogene in Catalonia and knowledge of sites of this age.
  • Experience in writing and/or evaluating fieldwork reports.
  • Experience in the management of sites or collections.
CONTRACT DURATION AND SALARY

The working week will be 25 hours and the contract duration from 08-10-2025 until 24-12-2025, under project ARQ001SOL-197-2022 - The Catalan Paleogene and the origin of primates, with a gross annual equivalent salary of €22,000 for a 37.5-hour work week and professional category SD2 (Laboratory Technician in a Research Group or Technical Area).

REQUIREMENTS - Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage or similar
- Minimum of one year of experience in paleontological preparation tasks
TASKS TO BE PERFORMED 1. Conservation, preparation and reproduction (making replicas) of fossil remains. Main duties will include paleontological preparation and the production of molds and replicas of fossil specimens from Permian and Triassic sites in Mallorca recovered during the 2024–2026 three-year project.
2. Documentation of preparation tasks performed (photographs, materials used, etc.).
3. Occasional preventive conservation tasks such as the creation of supports and packaging for storage and transport of fossil remains.
4. With the authorization of the Head of the Preparation and Conservation Area, research on materials and methods of paleontological preparation and, exceptionally, communication of results in conferences and/or publications.
5. Participation in preparation and/or conservation courses (co)organized by the ICP.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Certified experience in fossil preparation, particularly from Permian and Triassic sites.
Training and/or experience in making molds and replicas.
CONTRACT DURATION AND SALARY

The contract will last 2 months under the project “The first mammal ancestors and the oldest bats in the world: Permian and Triassic paleoecosystems of Mallorca”, with a gross annual salary equivalent to €22,000. The workweek will be 37.5 hours and the professional category SD2 (Preparation Technician).
