FI predoctoral researcher
Computational Biomechanics and Life History Evolution
My name is Albert Miralles Carreras, and I am a PhD student of Dr. Josep Fortuny, in the computational biomechanics and life history evolution research group.
My PhD focuses on exploring the applicability of neural networks in the field of paleobiology, and it’s the continuation of my Master Thesis. The latter was a study of how 3D convolutional neural networks can be used to explore the morphospace and ecology of basal tetrapoda through 3D models of their skulls, and it was supervised by Dr. Josep Fortuny and Dr. David Groenewald.
With this project, we hope to integrate the new mathematical tools offered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of paleobiology. This project is supported by the predoctoral program Joan Oró AGAUR-FI ajuts (2025 FI-1 00065) from the Research and Universities Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya and cofinanced by the European Social Funds Plus.
