Currículum abreujat

Sóc paleoantropòleg i paleontòleg de vertebrats centrat en la paleobiologia evolutiva. Vaig obtenir el doctorat en Biologia el 2005 (Universitat de Barcelona) amb una tesi centrada en l'origen i l'evolució dels grans simis i humans, realitzada a l'Institut de Paleontologia M. Crusafont gràcies a una beca de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1999- 2002). Després d'uns anys (2003-2006) treballant per al sector privat (en serveis paleontològics), em vaig reincorporar a l'acadèmia amb un contracte postdoctoral 'Beatriu de Pinós' (2006-2008) a la Unitat d'Antropologia Biològica de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Posteriorment vaig ser investigador postdoctoral sènior visitant (2008–2009) a la Universitat de Florència (Itàlia), fins que vaig obtenir un contracte d'investigador 'Ramón y Cajal' a l'Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont (ICP) a finals de 2019. Durant aquest període vaig ser també investigador visitant (2012–2013) a la Universitat de Torino (Itàlia) i vaig realitzar estades més curtes a altres institucions estrangeres (Museu Americà d'Història Natural i Universitat de Stony Brook, Nova York, EUA). A l'ICP líder el meu propi grup de recerca des del 2012; També vaig ser nomenat director de l'ICP el 2017 i actualment coordino els tres grups de recerca de l'Àrea de Recerca del Cenozoic. Les meves línies de recerca actuals inclouen la paleobiologia, la filogènia i l'evolució de primats catarrins i altres vertebrats del Neogen i el Quaternari d'Europa; i la dinàmica de la paleobiodiversitat de vertebrats, amb un èmfasi especial en els recanvis faunístics en relació amb canvis paleoambientals.

La visibilitat i lideratge internacional dins del meu camp queda testificada pel meu paper com a coeditor en cap del Journal of Human Evolution (la principal revista paleoantropològica) des del 2017, encara que sóc membre del Consell Editorial (com a editor associat) des del 2013 També he revisat articles per les revistes més reconegudes en paleontologia, antropologia evolutiva i ciències multidisciplinàries. El 2013 vaig rebre el certificat del Programa I3 (Ministeri d'Economia i Competitivitat) en reconeixement a una trajectòria de recerca destacada, i el 2016 vaig rebre el premi al millor article científic de la Societat Catalana de Biologia. Estic acreditat com a professor titular de ciències a Catalunya i com a professor titular d'antropologia i paleontologia a Itàlia, i tinc una llarga experiència docent a màsters universitaris a la UAB. També tinc una vasta experiència en la direcció de campanyes de treball de camp paleontològic, com les de l'Abocador de Can Mata (Miocè mitjà), Can Llobateres (Miocè superior) i Vallparadís (Pleistocè), que van permetre el descobriment de moltes restes importants de primats fòssils (incloent-hi l'esquelet del gran simi miocè Pierolapithecus catalaunicus). El 2015 lideraré la publicació a Science d'un altre nou gènere d'hominoïdal, Pliobates cataloniae, que va tenir una gran repercussió entre els mitjans de comunicació. En total, he descrit 36 ​​nous tàxons, inclosos 6 gèneres i 12 (sub)espècies de vertebrats fòssils. Al llarg dels anys he participat en molts projectes de recerca, essent l'investigador principal de dos projectes de R+D finançats pel govern espanyol, un grup de recerca consolidat de la Generalitat de Catalunya i altres projectes finançats per la National Geographic Society i la Generalitat de Catalunya. Actualment participo en un projecte europeu (ITN) sobre paleoproteòmica orientat a recuperar dades moleculars de primats fòssils.

Pel que fa als resultats científics, les meves publicacions inclouen 122 articles en revistes SCI (indexats per Journal Citation Reports), cosa que resulta en un índex h de 28 (Scopus), 26 (WOS) i 32 (GoogleScholar). 85 (70%) d'aquests articles s'han publicat a revistes del primer quartil (Q1) (69 [57%] al primer decil), entre elles les revistes multidisciplinàries més reconegudes (Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Nature Communications), com també les revistes més prestigioses en els camps de l'antropologia (Journal of Human Evolution, Evolutionary Anthropology, American Journal of Physical Anthropology), Paleontologia (Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, Journal of Systematic Paleontology), biologia (Proceedings of the Royal Society B, eLife), zoologia (Zoological Journal of the Linnea Society, Journal of Mammalian Evolution) i ciències multidisciplinàries (Quaternary Science Reviews). També he publicat 61 articles addicionals a altres revistes i actes de congressos, un llibre, 9 capítols de llibres i 20 escrits de divulgació científica. A més, sóc coautor de 185 contribucions a 87 reunions científiques (125 en 63 reunions internacionals i 60 en 24 ibèriques), fet que porta a 56 resums publicats en revistes SCI i 103 resums addicionals en altres revistes i actes de congressos. Ha dirigit a més quatre tesis doctorals acabades i múltiples treballs de final de màster.
