Abridged curriculum

Josep holds a degree in Biological Sciences (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), and a PhD (Universitat de Barcelona). His PhD thesis was devoted to the study of Permian and Triassic faunas of Catalonia.  He is an evolutionary paleobiologist focusing his research to vertebrate paleontology. He was an associate researcher at the Laboratory for the Technological Innovation of Structures and Materials (LITEM - Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) and postdoc fellow at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris (MNHN, França) thanks to a “Beatriu de Pinós” grant. He is author of more than 60 articles published in international (SCI) journals as well as many other articles published in scientific and popular science journals. He leads or has been member of several national and international research projects.

Currently, he leads the research group of Computational Paleobiology at the ICP. His main research lines are:

Computer imaging

Computer Tomography (CT and µCT)

  • 3D reconstruction
  • Digital morphology
  • Computational biomechanics

Vertebrate Paleontology

  • Herpetofauna
  • Amphibian origins (Lissamphibians, Temnospondyls), Early Amniotes and Diapsids (Archosaurs)
  • Permian and Triassic vertebrates
