The first special event proposed by ISPH 2011 organizers is a visit to the recently opened ALBA Synchrotron Light Facility (),on Tuesday July 19, after the afternoon scientific sessions. Alba is placed near the campus of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. ALBA is a third generation Synchrotron Light Facility. Around the machine there are a collection of experimental research laboratories, called beamlines. At each beamline, scientists independantly use the light generated by the machine for a wide variety of experiments. It is constructed and operated by the CELLS consortium and is co-financed by the Catalan and Spanish governments. In recent years, synchrotron virtual histology has provided a major breakthrough in the research related to vertebrate hard tissue biology. Is for that reason that we think this activity will be of great interest to the participants of the ISPH2011. |
