Institut Català de Paleontologia

The Catalan Institute of Paleontology (ICP) is a private foundation, created in November 2006, sponsored by Generalitat de Catalunya and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which took over the Institut Paleontológic Miquel Crusafont, founded rating 1969. This is the website of the center where you will find information related to courses, conferences and activities that we are preparing or we have organized in the past.

L’Institut Català de Paleontologia (ICP) és una fundació privada, creada el novembre de 2006, amb la Generalitat de Catalunya i la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona com a patrons, que pren el relleu de l’Institut Paleontológic Miquel Crusafont, fundat l’any 1969. Aquesta és la web del centre on trobareu la informació necessària referent als cursos, els congressos i les activitats que estem preparant o hem organitzat en un passat.

Activitat destacada

La Setmana de la Ciència al ICP

En motiu de la Setmana de la Ciència 2009, l'Institut Català de Paleontologia organitza un seguit d'activitats divulgatives: visites guiades, gimcanes i xerrades, per tal d'apropar la paleontologia als alumnes de secundària. Aquest any, la Setmana de la Ciència es celebrarà del 13 al 24 de Novembre. Aquest any, la seu sabadellenca romandrà tancada degut a les obres de remodelació de l'antic Museu Miquel Crusafont. És per aquest motiu que la majoria d'activitats es duran a terme dins del Campus de la Universitat autònoma de Barcelona, entitat que juntament amb la Generalitat de Catalunya, és patrona de l'ICP.

El fil conductor d'aquestes activitats és l'estudi de la geologia i la biologia per entendre millor la morfologia, la història i la vida del nostre planeta. A través de la mostra de com treballen els preparadors, investigadors i professors volem donar a conèixer no només, la ciència que hi ha al darrera sinó també la manera de treballar i avançar. L'ICP fa molts anys que es suma al centenars d'institucions que participen de la Setmana de la Ciència. Un cop més, us animem a tots a participar-hi, a gaudir-hi i a aprendre.

General Information

Geometric Morphometrics and Phylogeny

Instructor: Dr. Chris Klingenberg (Senior Lecturer, University of Manchester)

Course requirements: Graduate or Postgraduate in Biological Sciences, basic knowledge in statistics and in the use of personal computers. Basic knowledge of geometric morphometrics.

Recomendations: Personal laptop is recommended. We would like to encourage participants to bring along their own morphometrics data and phylogeny information.

Congressos passats

I Iberian Symposium on Geometric Morphometrics

Our symposium is organized with the aim of allowing the debate about the uses and progresses in geometric morphometrics by any practitioner of the field. During the meeting the attendants will have the opportunity to present their own work, to enjoy numerous talks and discuss with other researchers. The principal aim of this meeting is to get all researchers interested in this technique together in order to open a window for discussion, help, and hopefully future collaborations.
In addition, an introductory course will be held the days previous to the conference (20‐21 July). The places will be limited and acceptance will be determined by strict pre‐inscription order.
